WME Cans Mel Gibson
William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, the agency that has represented Mel for years, notified the stars reps that they would be dropping him from their agency earlier this week.
Longtime agent, Ed Limato, whom worked at WME since 2007, passed away on July 3. A source from the agency reportedly stated that the only reason that Gibson was able to remain represented by WME for so long was because of Limato. “Mel was really important to Ed,” the source said. “He was with him for 32 years and I think Ed saw him as a son.” But the source added, “The world knows how Ari feels and he has never changed that opinion.”
WME partner, Ari Emanuel, has previously expressed hostility towards Gibson after he made anti-Semitic remarks and implied he was skeptical about the Holocaust.
Adding insult to injury, Mel’s already troubled career has been negatively affected even more recently following reports that the star is under investigation for assaulting his ex and allegedly making prejudiced remarks regarding Latino’s and African Americans. This was all in addition to the recently released audio of Gibson berating Oksana Grigorevia, which can be heard on Radar Online.
In the wake of all of this negative press, several studio exec’s have deemed Gibson untouchable. One studio chief said, “I would rather get engaged to Lindsay Lohan than have anything to do with him.”
One of Mel’s reps said that he had always planned to go without an agent after Limato’s death and added “At this point he doesn’t seem in need of an agent.” Truer words have never been spoken.
Let us know what you think about all of this, Celebstalkers! Are you going to turn your back on Mel or are you the type to stand by your man?
